Noida (Uttar Pradesh), [India], June 21, 2024: The Diamond Industry is evolving, revving with innovation which is fuelled by Lab Grown Diamonds and with rapidly growing consumer awareness for the conscious diamonds.
However, despite the technological advancement and the growing trend, the industry body has identified that the demand for traditional mined diamonds has remained relatively unchanged.
In 2024, a trio of founders came together and began working to address the gap where affordability can catch up with the aspiration of the millennials of owning a solitaire studded diamond jewellery, marking the inception of The6C.
“We aim to disrupt the traditional diamond market by offering our consumer a choice, a choice of bespoke jewellery that is timeless, yet won’t burn a hole in their pockets,” Rajat Gaur, co-founder of The6C tells us in this sublime conversation, as the price point of LGD is a mere 20% in comparison to its mined counterpart.
The founders bootstrapped the startup with an initial investment of around Rs.30L from personal savings and a loan.
What does it offer?
The Noida-based startup offers exquisite lab-grown diamond jewellery with focus on customisation and customer experience at its heart, while keeping the best of 4C’s at its core.
“A customer is introduced with our designing experts who conceptualises the designs through their artwork in phase-1. Most of the deals are cracked in this phase alone,” explains Shuchi Gunwant, another cofounder who is a certified diamond expert. With a keen eye for details, it seems gemmology is just not science, but art.
“Once approved, we develop CAD and share the final render for one last approval,” she adds.
Shapes for every demand
The start-up’s products also specialise in fancy shaped diamonds ranging from marquise, baguette to some very unique shaped diamonds as per customer demand.
“The idea is that we don’t believe in hero products. Our customer is the hero of this journey,” adds Mohit Lakhani, the third musketeer of The6C, who brings in vast experience of the global market and is the linchpin of The6C’s logistical success.
“With its manufacturing unit located in Surat, The6C creates custom jewellery based on specifics received from its designing team based out of Noida,” confirms Mohit.
All the products then undergo a final QC check and are then certified by IGI/GIA/SGL and BIS before delivering it to the customers.
The final lab grown product is just not a piece of jewellery for the customer, it is an experience and journey of his choicest design becoming reality.
Way ahead
According to Rajat, the traditional diamond industry in India is roughly $5B in size. Driven by rising incomes of the middle class and a growing demand for sustainable and affordable diamonds, lab grown is bound to take the industry by storm in the next couple of years.
The6C plans to enhance its range of product offering by investing in ready stock based upon the insights and feedback it is receiving from the customers. The idea is to enhance the customer’s experience as they will be able to touch and feel the product first hand.
The company further plans to dole out its first offline store in NCR by the end of this year once it is all set with its digital reach.
