Mumbai (Maharashtra), 20 Jan 2022:  The much-awaited book, The Legend of Birsa Munda by Tuhin A. Sinha and Ankita Verma was launched on Wednesday at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai.

The book was released by the Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Speaking at the event, the Governor said, “The contribution of various unknown freedom fighters to India’s freedom movement was as important as that of known frontline leaders of the movement.” Congratulating the authors on their efforts and extensive study, he added, “Birsa Munda is an ideal freedom fighter for the entire nation.”

The book is a thoroughly researched tribute to the life and times of the great tribal hero, Birsa Munda. Filling gaping holes in Indian literature and history, the book aims to bring to the forefront the role of this lesser-known tribal revolutionary who played an extremely important role in India’s struggle for independence. It is getting rave reviews in mainstream media. Aashish Chandorkar, well-known author and columnist, in his review of the book said, “The book is an honest portrayal of a tribal leader — the frail young boy who rose to become Bhagwan Birsa Munda. This is an offbeat book that covers a very important piece of Indian history.”

Tuhin A. Sinha, the author of the book, speaking at the event said, “Based on true events, the book is a tribute to Birsa Munda who in a very short life, mobilized the tribal community, rebelled against forced conversions, envisioned a fair and just society, and died fighting for it.” Ankita Verma, co-author added, “Birsa Munda was a lion-hearted warrior, a healer, and a spiritual guide. The book aims to bring to readers the story of this revolutionary who represented hope, grit and determination in the face of fear and helplessness.”

The event was moderated by well-known author Richa Mukherjee.

Veteran actor Anupam Kher tweeted, “Congratulations dear @tuhins for the launch of your book @MundaBirsa1 by Hon. @maha_governor !! Looking forward to reading the book. Jai Ho!!

This event was the first in a series of book launches that are slated to take place across the country. The book will also be launched in Bhopal by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

The Legend of Birsa Munda is being translated and will soon be available in Hindi, Marathi and other Indian languages. The translations are expected to be released later this year. The English edition is published by Amaryllis, and the translations will be published by Manjul Publishing House.
