Interview with the eminent Bengali Poet Anirban Chattopadhay

Reknowned Bengali poet Anirban Chottopadhyay was born in Bihar and raised in Jharkhand and west Bengal. He currently works and lives in Odisha. Afer the last award in 2022, “Poet of the year”, now again he will be felicitating very soon with an honor “Bongo shrestho” for his amazing works in the field of literature. In his response to earning the award, Anirban expresses his joy and gratitude to the writer and editor of Hindustan Pioneer. Being recognized for one’s exceptional and in-depth knowledge of political thinking and ideas is, in fact, a highly joyful event for a Bengali poet.

  1. How do you feel knowing the news of award?

Very elated. I would like to thanks All of my readers, well-wishers, and obviously the jury members. And also the one who stood always beside (a short pause) she is Bonolota Sen, who always push me hard to create, who teaches me a lot of thing about the life, about struggle.

  1. Your genre of writing is exceptional, and we noticed that you don’t write in a traditional way, what is the thought behind it?

Don’t take me so seriously! am only a creator who use to create based on my observations of this planet. I don’t write frequently because I’m not a professional writer, but everytime a significant event occurs, I use to express my joy, emotion, rage, and all other sentiments on paper, which eventually turned into poems. I am occasionally labeled as a political poet, but I believe that no one is non-political. I have my own political beliefs and in my life I try to practice those, but that does not imply that I am connected to any political party.

  1. We also know you for your in depth knowledge of cinema, I also read some of your review and I must say that those are really amazing. Why don’t you take this as a professional?

Hahaha… (laugh). Thanks for your words. Yes, I love cinema! Cinema is something for me that tells me how to desire, not what to desire. Talking about taking it professionally, I am okay with my life, and sometime I also get paid for this.. But I will definitely consider your advice in future (laugh).

  1. Tell me something about your next?? Are we going to get some new creation from you?

As I told you am not a professional regular writer who can publish 3-4 books in a year. But yes, this time my next will be coming soon. Probably in coming months.

  1. Please enlighten your readers something about your upcoming book.

What can I say about my own creation? (A pause), okay, let me tell you something spicy (laugh), my next book will be telling the stories of my soul mate lover. Is it not a spicy news for you?

  1. What is your future plan?

I am afraid of planning because I know how bad it feels when your planing would not come true. But if you ask me, A feature film is still something I’ve always wanted to do. I’m not sure of the exact time, but I’ll make an effort.

And recently আমি আরেকটা জিনিসের planing করছি, I don’t know how much I can do, but if I can make enough money someday, I want to build an alternative education school. I believe, This is actually what our society requires at this crucial time.

  1. Great thought, now Your words of wisdom for your readers.

Reading is important but analyzing is more important and more crucial. Don’t just trust what you read; don’t trust my statements as well. You should act on what you have read, felt, and understood what is right and wrong. And one more thing I would like to say “সমাজের Majority সবসময় ঠিক হয় না, তাই সমাজের majority যা ভাবে তাই ঠিক হবে সেটা ভাবো না (Majority always can not be right). Once one of our MP said very correctly that the parliament house is belong to the opposition, am sorry to make again a political remark (ended with laugh)
