Alibag (Maharashtra), [India], July 25, 2024: We, Today’s Youth Socially Foundation (TYSF), organized a beach clean-up drive called “Pariyawaran” at Varsoli Beach, Alibag, on June 30th, where we dedicated our efforts to cleaning the shores. Our team of enthusiastic volunteers worked diligently to remove waste and restore the natural beauty of the beach.
What is TYSF?
TYSF is a youth-driven NGO committed to making a positive impact on the environment and society. We have conducted numerous sanitary pad donation drives and educational programs on women’s hygiene in Aadiwasi Vaadi communities, reaching over 1000 women and donating 10,000 sanitary pads. We run campaigns in different Aadiwasi wadis for a cycle of 6 months, empowering them with the knowledge required with the help of doctors. With these campaigns, we have seen a notable difference in the usage of sanitary pads. For example, one of the Aadiwasi waadi in Poynad had sanitary pad usage of 15 to 25 percent, which grew to 82 percent by the end of the camp. Our goal is to empower communities with knowledge and resources for better health and well-being.
Why do we choose beach cleaning?
Beaches are often littered with sanitary pads, diapers, plastic bottles, and various plastics that get buried under the sand. These items do not decompose and remain a permanent part of the shore unless removed. The accumulation of such waste poses a significant environmental threat, harming marine life and disrupting the natural ecosystem.
Addressing Myths About Beach Clean-Ups.
There are several myths regarding beach clean-ups, such as the belief that the beach will just get dirty again. However, this mindset overlooks the fact that items like diapers and sanitary napkins never decompose. They require active removal to maintain a clean and healthy beach environment.

“Many people question the need for beach clean-ups, thinking the beach will inevitably get dirty again. This is a myth. Diapers, sanitary napkins, and other non-decomposable waste will remain unless we actively remove them. There are many young people who want to contribute but are held back by these misconceptions. We aim to break these taboos and encourage more youth to join us in our efforts. So for this, we arranged a “Varsoli Beach Festival,” which was sponsored by Out of Box Living and featured fun, food, and entertainment uniquely. We also had the First Ever Beach Concert in Alibag to promote awareness about beach ethics, conservation, and the importance of environmental hygiene. We had a footfall of 60000 people.
