LA-based cinematographer brings cross-cultural vision to his next big project.
Los Angeles, [CA], August 14, 2025: Smit Patel, an LA-based Indian cinematographer, is preparing for his next major project: serving as Director of Photography for a Gujarati-language feature film set in New York.
Known for his thriller-inspired compositions, Patel blends Indian storytelling traditions with the technical sophistication of Hollywood filmmaking. “This is a dream project,” he says. “I can’t wait for the public to see it.”
Patel’s career has been marked by versatility, spanning Blood on Your Teeth (music video), Insurance Jimmy (feature film), and Ties of Darkness (short film). His work often centers on suspense, horror, and dark drama — genres that allow him to experiment with lighting and mood.
In addition to the feature, Patel is working on a documentary filmed across the United States. While details remain under wraps, the project promises to showcase Patel’s observational eye and his knack for turning real moments into cinematic experiences.
