New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, the architect of India’s 1991 economic reforms, passed away in New Delhi on Thursday night at the age of 92.

Dr. Singh, who was being treated for age-related health issues, was rushed to the emergency ward of AIIMS Delhi after losing consciousness, according to the hospital’s bulletin.
“Resuscitative measures were initiated at home. He was brought to AIIMS at 8:06 pm but could not be revived. He was declared dead at 9:51 pm,” the bulletin said.

Dr. Singh served as the Finance Minister in the Narasimha Rao government, initiating the economic liberalisation reforms that transformed India’s economy. Later, he served two consecutive terms as Prime Minister, leading the Congress-led UPA government from 2004 to 2014.

Born on September 26, 1932, in Gah village, West Punjab (now in Pakistan), Dr. Singh’s journey was marked by dedication to service, scholarship, and leadership. He held key positions, including Chief Economic Adviser, RBI Governor, and Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission. His vision for economic growth and inclusive development shaped modern India.

Leaders across political lines paid tribute to Dr. Singh, remembering him as a visionary statesman and a symbol of integrity whose contributions will remain etched in the annals of Indian history.
