Jersey City, NJ: In a dazzling display of cultural heritage, local actor and performer Harsh Kumar Shakti mesmerized the audience with a traditional Bengali folk dance performance at the recent Holi Hai event. The event, organized by Surati Performing Arts and supported by Hudson County and Jersey City, celebrated the vibrant colors and joy of the Indian festival of Holi.

Harsh Kumar Shakti’s captivating performance was a highlight of the evening, showcasing the beauty and grace of Bengali folk dance. The audience of 4,000 people was enthralled by the intricate steps and expressive movements, accompanied by the lively rhythms of traditional music.

“I was honored to share my passion for dance with such a large and enthusiastic audience,” said Harsh Kumar Shakti. “The energy of the crowd was electric, and it was a truly unforgettable experience.”

The Holi Hai event was a celebration of Indian culture and diversity, featuring music, dance, and colorful festivities. The festival attracted more than 3,000 people, who gathered at Exchange Place in Jersey City to participate in the festivities. The event included multicultural performances by over 50 artists, a variety of food and beverages, retail vendors, DJ, and kid-friendly recreational and educational activities.

The day began with a Yoga workshop by Luis Lujan, followed by children’s dance performances and adult performances that included traditional Indian classical dance and music, Bollywood, Indian classical Jazz Fusion, Bhangra, Garba, and Belly Dancing. The half-hourly color countdowns were a favorite among the audience, who enthusiastically threw colored powder in the air accompanied by energetic music. DJ Karma played later in the afternoon, rousing the crowd with his energetic beats.

The slogan of the festival was “When everyone is colorful, no one is special,” reflecting the spirit of unity and celebration that defined the event. People of different ethnicities and cultures mingled and celebrated together, making the festival a true reflection of the diversity and inclusivity of Jersey City.
