The Group of Twenty (G20) is the premier forum for international economic cooperation. It plays an important role in shaping and strengthening global architecture and governance on all major international economic issues. The G20 initially focused largely on broad macroeconomic issues, but it has since expanded its agenda to inter-alia include trade, sustainable development, health, agriculture, energy, environment, climate change, and anti-corruption.

Y20 India 2023

Youth 20 (Y20) is a youth engagement forum that is part of the G20 process. The Y20 India Summit in 2023 would be a valuable opportunity for the global youth to reflect on the following priority areas and suggest policy recommendations for consultations with the G20 member states.

Civil 20 (C-20) India 2023

The C-20 refers to the Civil 20, which is one of the engagement groups associated with the G20 (Group of Twenty) summit. The C20 is focused on civil society and brings together NGOs, advocacy groups, and civil society organizations to engage with G20 leaders.

Both the Y20 (Youth 20) and C20 (Civil 20) are engagement groups that are associated with the G20, focusing on youth and civil society participation, respectively.

Currently India holds the Presidency of the G20 from 1st December 2022 to 30th November 2023 and is reinforcing its spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam or the ‘World is One Family’.

The G20 has a significant impact on India. Here are some key ways in which the G20 impacts India:

  1. Economic Cooperation: The G20 is a forum for major economies to discuss and coordinate on global economic and financial issues. India, being one of the world’s largest economies, benefits from this platform to engage with other nations on matters such as trade, investment, and monetary policy.
  2. Trade and Investment: The G20 plays a role in shaping global trade policies and practices. For India, this can influence its access to international markets, trade agreements, and foreign direct investment inflows.
  3. Financial Stability: The G20 addresses issues related to financial stability, regulation, and supervision of global financial markets. These discussions are crucial for India’s financial sector, as they can affect the stability of the Indian economy and the functioning of its financial institutions.
  4. Climate Change and Sustainable Development: In recent years, the G20 has increasingly focused on issues related to climate change, sustainable development, and energy transition.
  5. Global Health and Pandemics: Events like the COVID-19 pandemic have highlighted the importance of global cooperation in health matters. The G20 can play a role in coordinating responses to health crises and can impact India’s access to vaccines, medicines, and healthcare resources.
  6. Geopolitical Relations: The G20 also provides a platform for diplomatic engagement among member countries. India can use this forum to strengthen its geopolitical relationships, address regional concerns, and promote its interests on the global stage.
  7. Policy Coordination: Through the G20, India has the opportunity to engage in discussions and negotiations with major economies to coordinate policies that can impact its domestic priorities and global standing.
