Harry D Cruz a beatboxer from Namma Bengaluru is all set to performance at the Novotel International Airport Mumbai organised by R AND M (Radio and music.com 3rd Edition The Clef Music awards on the 28th June 2023.
Hariharan is no ordinary beatboxer, he holds titles etched to his name, a few of which are the Asia book of records, and the India book of records. He recently graduated from St. George College of Management Studies with an MBA in Finance and HR and currently works at an IT company.
Hailing from a humble background, Hariharan said that he initially had no idea about beatboxing. He was intrigued after he saw one of his seniors perform at a college fest after which he decided to master the art form of beatboxing all by himself by merely watching YouTube videos. When quizzed about his stage name, he said, “One of my friends suggested that all artists have fancy names that make them stand out and that is when I decided to keep a stage name, which is Harry D Cruz”.
When I started beatboxing, I looked around only to find many others doing the same. I did not want to be one amongst the crowd, instead, I wanted to be the one standing out from the same crowd and that is how my journey of Thai flute beatboxing began”.
However, it wasn’t an easy path to tread for Hariharan when he began his beatboxing venture. His parents were determined that he must focus on his studies rather than participating in events, he also added that it was hard to pay for registration fees at fests with the monetary funds he had back then as a student.
Despite the hardships that came his way, Hariharan said that he kept moving forward, “I was passionate about beatboxing and that passion pushed me through all the difficulties. I believe that everyone must follow their dreams and should keep working towards achieving them no matter what obstacles come their way”.
