Playwright William Shakespeare had once said in one of his plays, ‘What’s in a name?’ While names have become everything in today’s time, there are still many who believe what something is called or labeled is arbitrary compared to the intrinsic qualities. One such actor, director and writer is Harsh Gupta who would rather be known for the works he has left behind.

Born and brought up in New Delhi, Harsh is currently making independent films in India and USA. His latest films include ‘Thoughts’, ‘Miles Apart’ and ‘Lost visions’. His filmography talks about violence and discrimination against several aspects of society. The social topics he has questioned through his art include violence against women, closeted individuals, young pregnancy & abortions, dementia and several more. The actor believes in constant search of truth and honesty in his work.

Probably why his acting and direction has earned him recognition in short span of time. Harsh had recently received Best Actor award for Miles Apart in Lee Starsberg Film Festival 2022. His film Vamos Carajo won best smartphone film and best editing at 3*5 LA film contest. His direction, Venganza won the Cult Critic Movie Award for Best Student Film. The film also went on to win Best Student Film at Gangtok International Film Festival, Virgin Spring CineFest. In 2020, Harsh’s short film, Thoughts, received a certificate of excellence at 10th Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival and was in the official selection list as well as won him best student director.

On his acting journey, Harsh shares, “I started acting when I was just 16. I have learnt from and worked with Asmita Theatre in Delhi under the guidance of Arvind Gaur. Then served as a student and director in Barry John Acting Studio. I moved to New York and made short films which won me awards at festivals both as an actor and filmmaker. I do a lot of theatre in New York and finished working as a guest artist in Drew University, Madison, New Jersey where I was reading for an Indian playwright My goal is to create art that I want to see in the world and see if it resonates.” And his multi-talented persona doesn’t end at that, an entrepreneur, he owns a restaurant chain, Breakin’ Brew which is inspired from his love for the series Breaking Bad and storytelling. When not acting, Harsh runs his restaurants.
