The rap fever is back again as India’s rap reality show Hustle is gaining momentum among the masses. While contestants this season are repping what they represent, one face that has impressed the audience is Mumbai’s Vijay Dada.

Vijay Kumar Vaniyar, better known by his stage name Vijay Dada has been on a constant growth in the season, delivering consistent performances one after another. Hailing from a suburb in Mumbai’s Govandi, Vijay has been doing Hip-Hop since 2014.

In an exclusive interview, Vijay told us that he got into Hip-Hop through B-Boying. “I used to do B-Boying in early 2014 and then I started doing beatboxing as well, an NGO named Lok Seva Sangam helped me to polish my skills. I started writing raps in lockdown.”

It has been an impeccable journey for Vijay as he never looked back after he started writing raps, and released singles one after another. He soon became a local idol and source of inspiration for his hood, which he represents proudly in the show as well.

Vijay Dada seamlessly blends Mumbai street slangs into his songs and tries to convey the power of pen and music through his lyrics. His motive is to spread the message of “Khanjar nhi Kalam uthao” (Pick pen, not sword).

Riding trap and drill beats with ease, Vijay has performed exceptionally well in Hustle season 3 garnering attention of Hip-Hop lovers across the nation. His ability to deliver power packed performances along with conscious lyrics makes him stand out on the show.

Vijay wants to give it back to the streets and suburbs where he spent his childhood. He looks to set up a free studio for budding artists in his suburb and provides free training to almost 60 students, so that they can turn their fortunes as well.

No doubt, with a new wave of Hip-Hop music riding the nation, Vijay Dada looks confident as the next flagbearer of this genre from Mumbai to say the least.
